Our Story

Force Tennis Academy was a vision my husband Jouni & I had for juniors to have access to high level tennis training in Thunder Bay. As many of you know, this isn’t a new concept. Many sports such as swimming (Thunderbolts), basketball (Blaze & Wolves), soccer (Chill & Express), baseball (Lakers), hockey (Kings & Queens) & Football (Knights) all have high level junior academy’s in Thunder Bay. I sincerely appreciate & recognize all these achievements of these parents and visionaries involved for the countless hours dedicated to getting these establishments developed. It truly takes a village & the reward for our young athletes is priceless.

Tennis may be one of the last sports to develop and provide this great opportunity for young players in Thunder Bay. As a young elite basketball player, I can tell you the experience was immeasurable and set a foundation for my professional development.

My husband, for those that don’t know, played in the Kings hockey organization in his youth and went on to a very successful career in junior hockey & professional hockey overseas. He is grateful every day for the development and high-level coaching he received from the Kings program. He has since paid it forward by co-creating & developing a AAA spring hockey program for Thunder Bay boys & girls called FHC hockey!

It is truly our hope that these Force Tennis Athletes will be the future of our club!

In 2019 we reached out to 2 new tennis players to Thunder Bay, whom both had extensive experience coaching high performance juniors in Ontario & Internationally. With their assistance & unparallel experience we designed an academy for high level juniors right here in Thunder Bay!

In the spring of 2020, the TBCTC executive approved the Force Tennis Academy to run10hours/week at the TBCTC. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic last summer, I chose to not start the academy until spring of 2021.

Fast forward to this year 2021, the current executive approved the academy for 4 hours of court time. This also included a resolution to include an additional age group(U18) without the addition of any further court capacity or court time.

With over 800+hrs/week of available court time at the TBCTC, The Force Academy hopes to increase our academy court time. We are certain the success of this program will only garner further interest!

The Force Tennis Academy is a junior high-level training program that was approved in APRIL 2021 by TBCTC Executive to operate on TBCTC courts. Our coaches & our players are members of the TBCTC.

In the fall of 2020, I was grateful to enlist the help and support of 2 parents to work through the massive amount of preparation & organization to make this dream a reality for the 2021 season. I, Hao Luu, & Kristine Hilden have put 100’s of hours into this academy. We have met with the coaches in various meetings to plan and develop the best high-performance academy north of Toronto! I have consulted with the OTA for advice & mentorship as well as to ensure our adherence to OTA codes of conduct for players, coaches & parents. I know many of you can appreciate the volunteer time involved in this undertaking.

To our benefit Thunder Bay has some very high-level coaches who are living here, including our own head pro! We approached them to build this academy for the summer 2021 season. To develop high level athletes, you need high level coaching. With these coaches we created a blockbuster coaching lineup.
